You will need the following items to use the dxf files to make physical items, or you can use the dxfs just as graphic items...
CAD software:
- The CAD software is for viewing and editing the dxf code. Useful for scaling or combining multiple dxf items for example to make a carved picture frame .
- Useful resources for free CAD downloads : ZWCAD (Our current favourite), A9CAD (smaller and simpler) ... both of these options are much like the classic autocad interface
- We use Sheetcam for most of what we do. It is a really capable low cost application: Sheetcam
- If you want more complex capability we'd suggest the Vectric range of software for creating truly 3 dimensional engraving and carving effects .
A CNC machine or service.
- This part is the really fun bit.
- Options here include, laser cutting, water jet profiling, plasma cutting and CNC routers
- Of all the above options only CNC Routing will give you a truly 3d result however.
